I too am interested in trying to use gdal_translate with a WMS getmap
request, but using the approach suggested does not seem to preserve
the geospatial info:
rsignell@gam:~$ export GDAL_SKIP=WMS
rsignell@gam:~$ gdal_translate -of GTiff -co "TFW=YES"

Ah, I didn't notice those parameters. Well, they will be ign
Even, thx for response
Perhaps I miss the real mean of the parameter -srcwin.
I guess that setting -srcwin 0 0 377 283 for a wms image of
...WIDTH=377&HEIGHT=283&...
mean "take all the image".
don't ?
Many thx,
Andrea.

Hi even,
thx for hints.
I try it on a linux 64bit and effectively the error was disappeared.
But the result is a full black (empty ?) image .
The same wms request applied to a browser give a visible image.
This could be a problem of my pc only ?
Thx
Andrea.

No, because -outsize is used to set the dimensions of the in-memory temporary
VRT dataset, but this doesn't change how the source raster is managed.

I'm not at my desk right now but I thought adding -outsize x y would do the
trick?

Hi,
I'm try-ing to get a raster from a wms service using gdal_translate
this is the call I'm doing:
gdal_translate -of GTiff -co "TFW=Y
ES" -srcwin 0 0 377 283 "WMS:
http://www502.regione.toscana.it/cartografia/wmsras
