Hi all
At ESRI Developer Summit, March 22–25, 2010, Palm Springs, CA, they
talked about the ArcGIS 10 to be expected in June 2010.
But somebody (http://tinyurl.com/34nk558, 19. April 2010, german) said
that the opening of the API (C++ only) won't make it into this
release.
But since this is a sto
Matt,
although we were told at the time that the EMEA 2008 Proceedings would be
put online, I've yet to see them or hear of the result - I was a speaker and
submitted my materials on time and as requested and that seems to have been the
end of the story.

The earliest reference I found to a "promise" of an open specification
for file-gdb was ESRI UC 2006, with discussion where of a forthcoming
public specification mentioned as far back as ArcGIS 8.3.
In many discussions people seem to use the terms open API and open file

In October 2008 at the European, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) User Conference,
Jack Dangermond announced that the FGB format would be published, 'as was the
shapefile', at the 9.4 release, following the completion of developments to the
structure. We were then told to expect 9.4 in summer 2009
Hi Ragi,
You mean, unless I use this pre-built version you gave me (
http://bit.ly/cNdrSr ) I´ll have to download GDAL sources + AO patches
and then build at Win box my own GDAL/MapServer bins to read this
format? Am I right?

I've lost all confidence that ESRI's as yet unpublished API will be open

Although promised years ago (ESRI UC, 2007) they've been dragging their

thanks for the help Frank,
Or in less words: this support is still in development and we probably have
to think in other solution to read fgdb´s using MapServer or other based on
OGR or FDO interfaces.

Hi,

Is there any plan for OGR on supporting this ESRI format or this will
depend on 'when' ESRI be able to open this format specification.
