It works fine for me with GDAL 1.9.1.The issus coud be depends on the
version you used or the datasource.

Can you give more details like the version of GDAL you are using and an
output of ogrinfo of the source?
(Use "ogr2ogr --version")

but FWtools crashes !!
is there any problem with this command line ?
