Thank you for your help. I've found it in my spam folder and can login the
website. I followed your instruction - first went to the Support -> Downloads
and looked for the SDK. I saw total 11 items: ERDAS IMAGINE, ERDAS ER Mapper,
ERDAS Image Web Server, LPS, ERDAS ImageEqualizer, ORIMA
Mine came quickly. Did you check if it got sent to your spam folder? You
might try it again. I don't know what else to suggest.

ECW needs Byte data *per band*, so you could convert 3 Band RGB (every
band in byte) data without problems into ECW.
Performance is another issue. As long as you do not have problems with
disk space I would recommend continuing to use uncompressed Tiff with
