ohhh, now I see what's wrong.
Out of Memory: Killed process 18248 (cc1).
the PPC970FX box has 1GB ram + 1GB swap.
i'll re-run build and try to reproduce this memory-hog.

soft-fp is included by default on powerpc-linux and it works for everyone I
know.
