The operator! It is amazing how consistent you can be counting cadence
while turning the crank. And 16 fps on an eight-frames-per-crank-t
I've used a variety of 16mm projectors over the years and often switch
between silent and sound speed while trying to run two identical prints in
sync (or as close as possible). No matter whether the B&Hs and the Pageants
I have used specify 16fps or 18 fps, either speed can vary quite a bit. So
I
Love the B&H 273. To know what speed the rotating knob sets, make a set of
short loops of film, hole-punched at 24, 18, 16, slower! Project them while
listening to a metronome app on phone. Dial in your speed so holes sync
with 60bpm clicks. Nice self-sound with this projector, and it is gentle.

Pageants are my favorite for 16mm 24fps projection, because they've been
good to me in terms of staying functional and not eating film. Which sadly
wasn't the case with more modern slot loads or (eek!) auto-loads.
The "not the brightest" issue matters though, which is due in part to the
available
I was gonna say that I’ve been having trouble finding a projector which can do
both 16 and 24 speeds. I *think* some of the (earlier!) Bell + Howell
projectors with electronic adjustable speed controls run at 16 at the low end
and 24 at the fastest.
I’ve been using a B+H model 273 which has no
"Official" silent speed for 16mm is 16fps, and for many (of the few)
experimental films intended to be shown at silent speed, getting the
correct speed matters, even if the work is abstract. That is, there may be
no obvious issue like a keystone cops speed-up on human motion, so the
projection look
The main problem with pageants is the poor sound quality because of the
lack of a lower sprocket but this is absolutely not a problem for
silent films! They are not the brightest thing on the screen but that
is often not a problem. Be sure the felt pad inside is kept wet with oil!

I use Kodak Pageants like it's my job. They project at 18fps and 24fps. The
AV-126-TR uses the old incandescent bulbs, while the 250E & 250S use
halogen bulbs. Pageants are dependable and solid. If you're looking for
variable speed projectors that can also do single frames, I go with the
Kodak Anal
You want a classroom projector or something for big screens? Personally
I am a fan of the 300-series Bell and Howell projectors, the larger and
older ones. No belts, no rubber parts other than shockmounts. Lens
selection is somewhat limited, though. They can be adjusted for either
16 or 18 fps
What are the best projectors to get for 16/18 fps? I looking in terms
of reasonable price, serviceable, with a normal reel capacity, etc.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
