changes the keyboard repeat rate and it slows down. I can't figure out
what triggers the rate to reset, but it's
1) via the X config file (keyboard section, autorepeat option); this way
you should get the same behaviour at every startup

that, you don't always get an .xinitrc file on installation, and may
have to create one in your home dire
