Hi,
I find that refreshing the shelf (right-click on the shelf, then
Refresh) causes the systray icons to be displayed, without having to
restart the whole of e.

Are you using Intel graphics?
I had this same issue running e17 on Arch. The xf86-video-intel driver was
recently updated to use sna by default. Forcing uxa fixed the issue for me.

I seem to recall this is due to a problem with a specific font. Try
either changing the font that is causing this (it will be in your E17
install path (/usr/local/share/enlightenment/) somewhere, or try
changing themes (look at http://www.cuddletech.com/).
