I have 2.6.16.27 kernel and kernels headers package installed for this
kernel, I think includes must be the same. I try to make link as you
describe, but get the same error. May be somethin changed in 2.6.16.27
and 2.6.17 kernels and this is a problem?

I was having the same problem you have, but only have it in one of my
machines the other one was fine, both of them running slackware 10.2, kernel
2.6.17.1 the only diferent is the kernel config file and that the one was
having the problem is a laptop.
