Re: status of 1.8 release blockers

Here is the fifth update with several days to go until alpha. I believe we are on track for a feature freeze at the end of day on Monday. Let's see how things go, but I'd like to cut the stable/1.8.x branch and issue the alpha release by the following Friday (a week from today). New blockers:
