Two differences might be relevant.
First, the apple formats need to be transcoded on the server to
something that the SB understands, whereas the mp3 doesn't. If you
have severe server loading problems, or a faulty software installation
of quicktime for example, you might see these symptoms.

so i've been having network connection issues with my squeezebox, and
so i decided to do an experiment. when the squeezebox got a connection
again, i let it run for a bit, then i disabled my router.
then, immediately, i re-enabled my router. my ibm thinkpad reconnected
within 20 seconds.
Let me start off by saying that I am a huge fan of Slimdevices, I have
worked in the IT field for many years and since discovering slimserver
I recommend them at every opportunity.
However, one client recently had a Halloween party at his home. He owns
two SB3 and has softsqueeze running on three
my slim device seems pretty flaky. occasionally i'll get the 'connecting
to wireless network...' problem, even though my computer a few feet away
is connected wirelessly with no problem and good signal.
also, sometimes i see a problem where i'm connected to the wireless but
i get a 'connecting to

Thanks for your posts. My pc firewall was blocking the squeezebox IP
address. I guess that somehow resulted from rebooting the squeezbox or
the computer. Nevertheless, up and running now. Thanks again.

Using SB3 and Slimserver 6.5.0 with an Intel Mac with iTunes I get
unlistenable stuttering when playing files ripped in aiff, apple
lossless and AAC formats. With MP3 files this happens much less
frequently. This makes no sense to me, but then I am new user and
pretty ignorant technologically.
There certainly isn't autosensing, although I imagine it could be added
in a firmware change. The plugin that allows input switching doesn't
seem to have a web component at the moment (that I can find) but again
I wouldn't imagine it would be a difficult thing to add.

Thanks for the replys. I did all of the things that you listed,
probably more than once, anyway I just kept fiddling with the settings
and all of a sudden it started working. The only trouble is, I don't
know which fiddle really fixed the problem. I now have every thing
configured in static ip
If you are still running wireless, try temporarily wiring to see if that
makes a difference.
If wired works and wireless doesn't, could it be a security setting?

I moved my SB3 to another room. After I plugged it in - it does not
respond to the remote. I have tried to reset it using the + key when I
plug it in - still nothing but a black screen. Also tried keeping the
power button pressed - nada happens.
When I look on the back of the unit I can see that
I was shocked when I read the announcement. However following the thread
gives some hope.
I hope that a product in the "upper consumer range" like the squeezebox
will still be marketed under the slimdevices brand name. I really
wouldn't like to have a Logitech product on my stereo.

If the SB can't see the DCHP server and you have no firewall installed
on the PC that is running slimserver, it sounds more likely to be a
router issue or an IP conflict. I'm assuming not an IP conflict if all
the static IPs are connected correctly. Could you have you changed any
of the router s
Please try tomorrow's nightlies to see if this improves the situation
for you. Changes are:
1) scanning code no longer stores stuff in the file cache
2) file cache split up and artwork is only purged at startup
3) only purge when all players are off [so you should not notice it]

Since I added the exclusion for .my* files to my virus scanner
SlimServer 6.5.1 has stayed up. It didn't stay up when I had added just
.myl to the exclusion list.

I upgraded to v6.5.0 on the 25th, and have had repeated shutdowns and
total slowness with the web-interface (firefox).
I am running Win XP SP2, have a SB2, and the aforementioned SS v6.5.0.
I've mostly been playing music from my external HD.

Can you access the web interface? Maybe the slimserver.conf file is
corrupt, or slimserver is blocking all access to itself. I mean, there
is an option in the slimserver/security settings to block not alowed
ip's. Deleting the slimserver.conf file should help, but you have to do
all configuration
You could, just for fun and for a glowing feeling, trawl ebay for
Chinese valve amps. I got a dinky Ming-Da for under £200 for my
kitchen system, and there is a Yarland that sells for under £150
(UK-source, so no VAT issues).

you are using Windows, open it with Wordpad rather than Notepad.

Just updated the latest official server SW to 6.5. I'm using SB3
player. Everything went well, also SB3 SW update, but now I can't find
anynore Signal strength in the player in the Information section. In
the past it was there showing the actual value. Have I missed

was better then so I suspect the problem is the wireless (although on
the rare occasion when we've used other wireless devices in the kitchen

I finally solved this. The squeezebox/slimserver were complete red
herrings. I found that any setting applied to slimserver would not fix
the problem including disabling upnp. Finally I noticed even with
slimserver completely disabled I still had problems (despite what I
thought before).
