Also agreed. Most weeks, I do my weekly update on Monday (OK, OK, not this week) and I usually find it interesting scrolling through other people's updates. Future me is also pleased with past me for doing it, when it comes to writing "what the heck did you do last quarter/year/decade" summaries.

I've always liked the idea of standu.ps with the IRC bot reporting. Large tasks may become tricky with standups. AIUI you ping the standups bot when you finish a task, but for long running tasks (large PRs, etc) you can't do this so easily. With statusupdates I just add an entry "worked more on X"
