Is this something that could be adopted in a future 7.0 release?

Ok. I am back working on this again.

I haven't had too much time to work on this in the past week, but will try
to take another crack at something the weekend. Thanks for all the
comments. I will try to find a way that address these concerns, and does
not get too big or complicated.
Another route to take, would be to just add more
My initial motivation for doing this was in trying to figure out a way to
have the logs automatically delete old ones eventually. I couldn't find a
way to do it, looked at the source, and got a bit sidetracked. The rest is
history

I created at issue for this (52688) and attached the diffs.

We would like to use the flexibility of the standard logging mechanism for
the AccessLogValue. I could find no way to do this. Looking at the
AccessLogValve code in Tomcat 7, it seems it would really would not be hard
to add.
There already is standard logger in the AccessLogValve class, which is
The tomcat build downloads commons-collections but never uses it. It seems
this could be removed from the build scripts

I am trying to build Tomcat from source and I am curious about something.
On the Tomcat download page it say the following:

Yet, the Tomcat build blindly downloads all kinds of sources that are not
verified in any way. ANT can do MD5 chec
do it.

Mark,
If you submit a patch for OCSP support, I'll gladly review it, and I imagine
several other people would be interested as well.

I asked this on the user list, but perhaps this is a question better for
here. I have been using Tomcat for a while, but have not been developing
yet really (although I did submit a patch a while ago to the CGIServlet).
However, this OCSP issue has potential to really hit the fan for us and if

Here is an anecdote to describe what I mean.
While using 5.0, we had problems with the CGIServlet. It would not handle
uploads well at all. The problem was that the read w

If you are really paranoid - build your binary from the appropriate TAG

My boss has implemented some new procedures with regard to open source
projects. He believes the source distributions are trustworthy, but he is
not sure if he trusts the binary distributions. I think the reasoning is
that he is uncertain if the binary distributions are controlled as well as
