lock? A GMail MTA could use, say, IMAP, POP3 or HTTP+RSS.

compiled. make your changes and recompile it.
Not to sound like a jerk either but it sounds like you could benefit
greatly from some basic background reading on linux in general.

Gentoo doesn't require a whole lot of knowledge to use. It just
requires a Windows computer with a copy of IE pointed at the Gentoo
