8x will be in bugfix-only mode after the 8.11 release, so v2 bugfixes are ok,
but feel free to innovate and break back-compat in 9.x!

Would be nicer if I could go through them and record a decision then get a
green check mark so it was clear which ones were addressed vs punted but it
also takes nearly forever to complete.
