Ok, just wrapped my head around this.
1) surefire 2.3 uses p-u 1.1, with a customised commandline that
fixes a bug (Which has also been fixed in more recent p-utils)
2) maven 2.0.5 uses p-u 1.1, so it all plays well
3) 2.0.6/2.1 switch to a new p-u, which will break the above
