in short it builds OK now!
I've changed in my settings.xml .m2 to .m22, then have maven-3.0.5 build this
maven-3 release.
The build went OK! Then I compared briefly the new .m22 with the old .m2
repository. I merged the
new repository into my old .m2 repository and changed settings.xml back to
r
in the maven/pom.xml the following is found
scm:svn:http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/maven/maven-3/trunk
scm:svn:https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/maven/maven-3/trunk
http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/maven/maven-3/trunk
I changed this to
scm:git:https//git-wip-us.apache.org
