Just to be clear about this; only actual committers on the project are
allowed to assign an issue to themselves. If you want to fix an issue
you will just need to attach a patch to the jira or a pull request.

I am curious, are we involved in any way with the Maven central download
statistics thing? I am asking because I think I've found a major problem[1]
and I am happy to investigate. I just don't know where the code is.
