All the plugins where updated to use the new snapshot 4 of the parent. This includes versions of maven-plugin-plugin that need 2.0.5-SNAPSHOT. Well, that is not the typo. The typo is in either '2.0' or the svn URL. Maven 2.1 (trunk) has separated maven-core into maven-core and maven-cli, and the assembly should indeed be ran from maven-cli, on trunk. For 2.0 (the maven-2.0.x branch), the doco is correct. Either way, this should be fix
