with Maven 1 the JavaDoc plugin created not only the JavaDoc but also a
report with the Warnings that came up during JavaDoc generation.
This is no longer the case with the Maven 2 JavaDoc plugin? Or did I miss
some option somewhere?

Shouldn't happen, all the libraries need to be backwards compatible.
