Is it necessary to remove the download links?
I would suggest adding text saying "we cannot help if you have any issues
with these versions, but if you need them, they are here".

reason) use Java 6, then use Log4j 2.3; and

I'm in favor of dropping support for java 6 and 7 and have little reason to
believe anyone still using older releases is also taking library upgrades.
