I noticed the same bug in mutter 40, then tried to bisect it and found
the same in mutter 3.36. So yeah this appears to be a new kernel (or
Mesa) bug. It doesn't seem to happen much if at all if you run gnome-

Looks like upstream marked the linked bug from there as a dupe of

It happened a lot more when docked (ext USB-C monitor) than on the
laptop itself.
Kernel 5.9.1 seems good so far. I've not seen the issue yet and my

When I open a private window when using a normal window and if I let
both windows open, I get some very short hangs, without any crash or
whatever.
Never experience that with FF non-snap. Never experience that with only
1 FF window open.

Unfortunately browsers in general are becoming ever more memory-hungry,
this is a general trend that doesn't play well with legacy systems with
a modest amount of RAM (although the 12GB that you mention should be
plenty).

I see in the data attached by apport that you're using the chromium snap from
the beta channel.
Were you installing from the beta channel in both cases? Does switching to the
stable channel make a difference?
