Hmm, doing the reset caused the computer to freeze, I had to switch to a
tty and reboot. Ran the reset again in the background with just a
terminal open and it succeeded. The problem has gone away. I've saved
the config before and after (attached) but the suspicious item is
org.gnome.nautilus.prefe
I haven't knowingly changed anything recently but my original
installation was 15.04 and I've upgraded progressively so may have set
something in the past. I didn't have the problem with 18.04 though. I've
tried with a different user and the problem doesn't appear to be present
so it looks like it
It seems that on clicking an item the focus is temporarily set to a
different item further up the page before setting it to the selected
item. This can cause the page to scroll up to display the temporarily
focused item before scrolling down to show the selected item. Hence the
jump.

I can't see an error in the log but I'm no expert at reading these, I've
attached a copy of today's entries in case you can see something.
Its not specific to the directory, other than it has to have more entries than
can fit in the window.
The zoom setting makes no difference except to make the

I have this problem on Ubuntu 15.04. I had it on previous versions of
Ubuntu as well. I did a clean install of 15.04 so the bug is still
present in 15.04 (not a remnant of the earlier versions). See attached
screenshot. I've seen the missing characters occur in Nautilus and in
the gray bar at the t

Hey all,
had the same bug on my Dell E7440. Found out that after I installed
another maschine new with 14.10 the problem does not exist. So I give it
a try to install 14.10. on my dell from scratch and the bug is no longer
there.

I have the same problem with Rhythmbox, it crashes when I try to sync
podcasts using 12.04. I've had mixed success using gPodder as a
workaround, but it has its own issues, so I end up doing a full restore
on another computer with iTunes (or just using that computer to manage
podcasts altogether).
