It is well known that the 340.108 driver has not been maintained by Nvidia for
a few years now. Even the fervent Arch User Repository (AUR) community seems to
have lost interest in updating those drivers with new patches. Even the Nouveau
drivers do not work well, except on Opensuse Tumbleweed ;

I think you installed a wrong driver version for your card: version
418.113 is the right version for you.
I suggest you remove previous driver and try this patched one:

already has drivers patched for kernel 6.1 called nvidia-legacy-340xx-
driver.

Patched Nvidia 340.108 drivers supplied by Butterfly (kelebek333) at

if it is patched for that.

Seems something related to Chrome or Chromium.
The bug was also present in older versions of the driver.
Sometimes garbage disappers closing Chrome/Chromium and reopening soon after.

Tested on Sparkylinux (Debian testing) with nvidia-graphics-drivers-

Yes janitor, you are right... but in kubuntu 14.04, which should be "Long Term
Support", gtk2-engines-oxygen is still 1.4.5-0ubuntu1.

On my original system where I found this bug, the behaviour was still
consistent with Vimium.
However, I did recenty a fresh install of Lubuntu 13.10 and update to
latest version of Chromium in the repos, and installed Vimium and on
that machine (with a cheaper CPU) I do not have any high CPU usag
Vimium causes high cpu usage on any page with this Chromium version. I
have disabled it now. The issue is fully reproducible for me. I even
looked at the js profier - some functions are consuming around 25% CPU.
