I agree with comment #5. I am using Xubuntu 14.04, and I'm not using
compiz as far as I know, but I am still experiencing this non-resize
problem with update-manager. Can someone explain why this has been
marked as a compiz problem and why it has been marked as Invalid for
Trusty? Thanks.

I installed the package libav-tools using the command
sudo apt-get install libav-tools
This did install the package, but it produced a dpkg error on the way. The
output is given below.
My system is a live CD of Xubuntu 14.04 with virtually no changes (so it's

I'm slightly puzzled as to why this bug hasn't received more attention,
since not being able to access the internet is a major problem. Surely
that's a dealbreaker for most people? So I'm wondering if for some
reason it only affects a subset of users (despite Peter Curtis in post
