It's fixed with Thunderbird 128.4.0esr (the last version) installed
using snap.

I've removed the lines in question, doesn't make any difference in behaviour.
I'm attaching the syslog and interfaces files of the system with the update
installed.

Did recommended upgrade to ...-4.1 Result: Waiting for networking on
splash screen, followed by :waiting for further 60 seconds on networking
on splash screen. at login ifconfig only shows loopback. Rolled back to
...4 and everything works as expected again.
