Yes, it was specifically in Trusty 14.04 that this issue was found, in
May of 2014. Due to the Gedit and Dash issues with SCIM, I had to leave
using SCIM and use Fcitx instead. For the last 2 years I've been using
Fcitx.
As to your second question, I would need to make SCIM the active input
method

Until this scim-gedit bug is fixed, for anyone needing a work-around,
the Fcitx works very well in gedit. Both Ibus and scim have issues, but
Fcitx seems to be working great.

I think after long discussion we decided that enabling it by default
would cause more issues than leaving it off as a bunch of additional
things are enabled when it is turned on that would confuse people who

Well the whole situation is very complex, the other platform code is more or
less broken too.
Bug 629500 sums the whole situation quite good and looks like a welcome
refactor of the whole code base, maybe it will land in the next years? Feels
like gecko/firefox printing is stuck in IE6 age...

As part of regular FDO cleanup we are checking the version of
regressions to see if it's the oldest version that displays the
incorrect behavior.
In this case I have been able to verify the bug existence in
Version 3.6.0.0.beta1 (Build ID: 1f1cdd)
