im-switch is deprecated by im-config for quite some time in Debian, and
is not supported anymore. It causes problems for more recent input
methods that uses D-Bus (and other) technologies heavily. Upgrade path
is direct since im-config has "Provides: im-switch" set.

In the meantime, I had to reinstall in 64bits (I wrongly installed in 32bits)

Had the exact same problem on Debian 8 beta (Jessie). Noticed it in
gedit, calculator, and my own wxPython programs. So it is definitely
bigger than just gedit or Ubuntu.
Adam's fix worked for me, and as a side effect, got my Chinese pinyin
input in ibus working.
