Unsure if this makes a difference but I commented out the alsa options
for usb_snd_audio e.g. from [options snd-usb-audio index=-2 to #options
snd-usb-audio index=-2 ] and the sound now works. I think the index
options have changed for the alsa driver in the kernel 3.12. Sound
seems to be working

Very interesting. However, I think you should first try doing a stereo
recording (e g with audacity) to verify that this is actually the case.
If there is phase inversion, you should be able to see large values at
the highest gain, and you should be able to listen to one channel at a

This happens on both Ubuntu 13.10 Unity, and Ubuntu GNOME. It use to
happen on Kubuntu, but the ".config" settings have solved it. No more
gliches on Kubuntu 13.10 at all.
With Ubuntu 13.10 Unity, the Launcher and Panel are "rainbow" colored
and completely cover up Launcher & Panels. The backgroun

cupsd failed to create /var/run/cups/cups.sock, skipping automatic

That's by design in GSettings, the GLib developers have repeatedly said
that they won't change this. You get an assertion about the missing
schema, which is why I originally moved that to Unity as it seems it
just took away that schema.
