The patch wouldn't apply for me, so I reapplied it by hand to
xserver-1.13.0, here it is.

I agree on your description, and that it's a bug, but I would not
consider it to be a language-selector bug. Rather this problem is about

'dconf update' emits a signal that says "everything has changed"
Meanwhile, we have the configuration migration stuff watching for
changes and assuming that if there was a change in dconf it means that
we should sync it up to gconf.

1) This bug, that admittedly does not hit everyone, has been confirmed
by some 6 persons on Launchpad for Ubuntu. So, why 'unconfirmed'?
2) I reported it for release 3.x, I upgraded to release 15 and the bug
is still there

Happened to me a couple more times, the last while running nouveau
drivers (nvidia-common and nvidia-settings still installed but no other
parts of the nvidia driver). Total freeze; could see the mouse pointer
but nothing would respond (even VT-switching). I'll try running memtest,
