The old .Xsession / .xinitrc feature is something that has worked
consistently for 15+ years on a variety of unixes, so I was
pretty surprised to find such an established behavior removed.

I have the same problem with my Canon EOS 550D. The thumbnail process of MOV
files almost never ends making copying of files from the camera very slow
(10kb/s).
This bug is very critical - low priority is hard to understand to me. Should
not Ubuntu be good for beginners?

when you say 'standard drivers' are you saying that installing the
proprietary driver didn't help?
Also, does gnome-shell work?

are accessed is not fully compatible with Ubuntu 12.04, as stated in the

Allow multiple fonts in a TextWord
This patch modifies TextWord so that each character can be a different
font. Function poppler_page_get_text_attributes is updated to allow for
attributes to change mid-word.
