Try adding the line shown above to /etc/rc.local, that fixed the
brightness changes in X11 for me. Now it moves 1 step at a time in X11,
however the brightness cannot be changed at all when not in X11! (That

browse/import photos from camera broken in 12.04

I have a Canon 20D and in 12.04 I stopped being able to browse or import
photos.
I've tried connecting the camera via usb (normal, not PTP, mode) on 3 computers:
- Laptop 1 with Ubuntu 12.04
- Laptop 2 with Ubuntu 12.04
- Desktop with Ubuntu 10.10
On both Ubuntu 12.04 mach
@seb128 - the description seems pretty similar to this one, though: the
computer freezes because it doesn't have resources to keep up with hdd
hammering. If I plug the camera off it resumes.
I will report the bug as you suggested and will link it here, so you can
decide if they're related.

When double-clicking a new contact in the contact list, Empathy opens a
chat window. When I minimize that window, and go to the contact list
again, double-click the same contact, absolutely nothing happens.
Expected behaviour: The contact's chat window opens.

I've found that in 12.10 Alpha1 I can restore the correct operation by
disabling "Global Menu Bar integration 3.2.4pre" add-on (which I never
installed, so presumably came as part of 12.04). I don't know whether
I'm losing something else as a result of disabling this add-on, but
everything seems t
I've now checked on 12.04 and there I disable "Global Menu Bar
integration 3.2.3" add-on. It restores the functionality.
