Thanks to everyone who responded. In the end, the answer is to have TWM
as the last command in my .xsession file. TWM is minimal enough that it
doesn't get in my way, yet forces the X windows session to stay alive
until TWM quits -- which I never do.

(Freeserve). I can ping www.debian.org but when I try to "lynx
www.debian.org" the screen freezes saying "sending http request". I can
successfully browse the web using a different but ISP (Demon).

The card is a SYBA PCI USB 2.0 4+1 port controller card Model
SD-V2-5U, and it provides power to the device (mp3 player) I'm trying
