take the plunge into switching, is there anything to prepare?
This is my first time switching distros on a computer. Any pitfalls to
avoid.
By the way, I wanted to do a netinstall, so I only have to use the first

It's a small office LAN. My computer that can't ping it has an IP of
10.0.1.5.
It does reply to pings from ANY OTHER computer, except 10.0.1.5.

Actually I want to eventually make a Linux server take on the role of
the PDC.
However, our current PDC is a Windows SBS. It seems that I recall that
an SBS (small business server) can only be a PDC: i.e., you can't demo
nly the first page, while from others it prints all pages. Why would
that be?

I know that for whatever reason one of our users computers also exhibits
erratic mouse behavior in the GUI. But this only occurs after a reboot.
The problem is apparently that there are 2 mouse device programs running
at once. By killing gpm in bash, the problem is resolved.

Ok, I've tried compiling my kernel for FreeS/WAN following directions
from various sources, but I just don't get it.
As a note: i used kernel-source-2.4.18 and the latest FreeS/WAN source
from Woody source list.
I based my actions for compiling on an article I found titled "FreeS/WAN
& Debia
kernel-image-2.4.18..deb
Maybe there was some actions I needed to perform during the kernel config?
I just checked to see if IPSEC FreeS/WAN was included.

What do you mean by protocol? Authentication protocol? I have it set for
PAP/CHAP.
The same problem occurs when I try to connect to a modem on my Linux
server, which is set up for just PAP. For this connection, I dial in
using PAP only as well.

Very strange problem.
All of my samba shares from a single server are available except my home
share. Although I can mount it, there is nothing in the share. If,
however, I go to the server and look in my home directory, all files are
there.
Any ideas?

insist that the port is open.

provide all authentication for Windows clients, regardless of whether
they are just logging in to a computer, VPNing, obtaining mail (through
an Exchange Server and a Postfix Server). I would also like this to
apply to any Linux clients (although I'm the only one so far).

Lately XMMS has been having problems when I try to play ogg vorbis files.
When I try to select a file (using the Play File menu command) it just returns
with no file listed in XMMS. MP3's still play fine. I've tried uninstalling
and reinstalling XMMS to no effect. Are the ogg vorbis handling ro
ge my
sources.list for sid, run apt-get install [the samba package], then I
should also get just those dependencies I need, right? Then I can edit
my sources.list back to woody and go forward.
Or is there a better approach?
