I am very new to Debian, and linux in general. I installed hamm, base12
this afternoon, and tried to install GNOME with it but when I told the
install to get the packages from the floppies where I had copied the files
I downloaded from GNOME's ftp site it said there were no packages there?
Also..
Ok.. I downloaded the "package.deb" file.. I have it on floppy, but when I
tell dselect to look for new packages, I tell it floppy and it arbitrarily
looks in a dir, several places removed from where its at.. how do I force
it to look in the rood directory of the floppy?
I tried the dpkg -i /floppy/package.deb, and got the following msg's
dpkg: `ldconfig not foud on path`
dpkg: `start-stop-daemon not found on path`
dpkg: `instal-info not found on path`
dpkg: `update-rc.d not found on path`
dpkg: `4 unexpected programs not found on path`
nb: roots path should usual
ok.. so I can't get GNOME installed.. I've been told its easier to do,
"ONLINE", I've even had offeres of help, once I get online.. so... how the
heck to I get online with Debian?
Remember.. I'm deffinatly a newbie at Debian, and Linux.. just got it
installed this past sunday..
