I have found the "gnome" package in the "unstable" distribution which
is apparently what I want. Unfortunately when I try to install it with
"apt-get install gnome/unstable" apt-get complains that the package
does not exist.
Also, I really want the latest (0.60a3) version of Gaim, but this is

I duplicated the entries in my sources.list and replaced "stable" with
"unstable" in the new entries and everything worked great.
Gnome 2.0 looks and works much better than the old (probably
mis-installed) version.

The troubles with debian woody, sweex ethernet cards and a motorola
modem are solved. Motorola cable modems don't work under debian. I tried
a good "old" com 21 cable modem with static ip addresses and it works
fine.
So don't use Motorola modems with Debian

I have this switch also. The workaround that I have used is to be sure that
all operations on the one computer are finished before going to the next,
and I use the manual button, not the keyboard.

I finally got Debian to install -- the packages that could not install were
all in Tasksel's "desktop" selection.

I have a USB Palm m505 device. Hotplug works, but I'm trying to get it to
run a script when I push the hotsync button.
If the visor module is not loaded then hotplug runs the usb.agent script
and that loads the visor module and then runs /etc/hotplub/usb/visor,
which is where I'd then run jpilot-

I setup my X server to be using an X font server (xfs-xtt); only the
font server, no font path in the XFConfig (well, except the unix/:7110
line, of course). The fonts on Nautilus', Mozilla's, Gnome Terminal's

the irc server is dropping my connection with the error "Bad User Info"
I am connecting with Xchat via http proxy. I has worked until recently,
Connections with bitchx from the firewall work fine
How can I connect to the server and not get this error? what is the cause?

try changing your username, hostname, etc. settings to very "conservative"

I have it set up for Halt On: no error on that BIOS setting, yet
strangely I still cannot boot up. I disconnect all peripherals
including the keyboard, but leave just the monitor, and I can watch it
boot up just fine. The kernel output just complains that no AT keyboard
