I'm using the newsreader-client Tin (1.5.12) and when I reply or
follow-up a posting, the From header reads: Debian User <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.
In ~/.tin/attributes I filled in my e-mail address in the 'from' field,
but that doesn't help.

Is there a way to get tin to always sort newsgroups alphabetically
unless you move a group by hand in the list?

I am trying to use tin for my laptop in my local network (I havent a local
dns working for it) the problem is that despite the fact I have the
correct order in /etc/host.conf (host, bind) and all the entries in
/etc/hosts properly configured in every machine on my network tin tries to
query the dns
I have a problem having tin recognize groups that were expired by
leafnode.
Does anyone else have a similar problem?

I'm using tin as my newsreader.
Playing with kill/score file, I've found that if I hotlist a user or
topic, the result is that from the first highlighted article down, the
entire screen is highlighted, when using ANSI color. Disabling color
results in what should be proper behavior

I'm using leafnode and tin for locally-stored news reading.
I can read groups and articles but I post. On submitting an item,
on the first instance I get a message that there was an error posting
the message. If I then resubmit, tin lists on the status line "Posting
article..."
When trying to post with tin, I get a error message:
"Invalid sender: dali@"
...although I've put this entry to the configuration menu :
65. Mail address[EMAIL PROTECTED]
What's the matter? I'm using potato, leafnode and tin -r.

As suggested by Paul Haggart <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, I upgraded to the new
version of tin (in "slink"), and everything is working fine again.
Don't know the reason of the problem, but may be I will post something
to the Debian bug tracking system?
Any suggestion?

The solution: Press M in rtin, choose item 73. MM_CHARSET and set it
to ISO-8859-1.

I installed a fresh Debian 2.0 system via FTP. The tin newsreader shows
the groups available, but when I press Enter to see the headers, the
program hangs.
I found this problem on two different systems.
I fixed the problem by purging tin_980226-3.deb and installing the old

Type "M" to get a menu of items to configure in tin. Select item 73
(MM_CHARSET), change it to ISO-8859-1. All seems to be happy.

Hi,
I have upgraded to tin 980226-3 (hamm) and need to do one or other of
the following
+ change my charset to iso-8859-1, or
+ change my bitrate to 7bit
in order to post messages (currently I get the error msg that the
posting is not us-ascii.
Does anyone know how to do one of the above? (And

When I try to post an article using tin, I'm getting the message:

Anyone know why that is? What can I change us-ascii to that will make
this work?
I need to be able to post to c.o.l.m again. :)

Does anyone use the .tin/attributes file of tin?
I do not manage to make it work, even if I use the example given in the
man page. I already sent a bug report about this (#17588) and the new
version does not solve the problem. (whereas it should work)
Am I the only one in that case?

Is there a way to have the ISO-8859-1 charset with tin ?
I use tin 97.04.24-3, and before, I was able to have them with a simple
export LANG=fr_FR
I don't have the accents and the other ISO-8859-1 characters anymore.

Hi clever peeps.
I`m using tin and xcoral as my $VISUAL editor but recently it`s starting
doing an odd thing. Whenever I post , followup or reply to anything in
tin it spawns 2 xcorals instead of one. The extra one is called "untitled"

on how to do it..
