I have a multiply-upgraded Debian "etch" box, which is also a log
host (i.e. many other hosts log on it via the UDP port that syslog provides),
and our policies regarding log retention have recently changed.
My problem is that

Hi,
I run Debian 2.2 release 3 (stable)
and I use the script ``pon'' to connect
to my IP.
Sometimes I get a connection, sometimes the connection
stops and/or I can't connect.
Since I have 2 providers, I suppose that the problem
comes from my side.
The analysis in /var/log/syslog of the problem

which kernel? 2.2.16 or early 2.2.17pre's? it's a known bug in
them. upgrading to the last 2.2.17pre should solve the problem.

here is only one
solution: restarting the machine, the 'dirty way'.
I hope some Linux-guru can give a little advice to solve these
'destabilizing' phenomena.
