Hi.
I managed to install my speedtouch modem on my brand new Sarge Debian,
and then I was able to connect to internet, so I connected to the
security upgrades server. Everything went OK... but now I can no more
connect :-(
I installed the basic 2.4.x kernel for a k7 athlon processor.

Hello Debianists,
this mail is a rather detailed report of my attempts to have the green

it to work, but I need your help):

I want it to work with the default debian sarge install. There's a

I am sorry, but I don't know the exact URL anymore. Probably Google can

P.S. I used this to set up the SpeedTouch 500i. Don't know what model
you are using.
just clarify that I am using one of the SpeedTouch USB modems (these
are what are often given away by broadband ISP's when you sign up here in the
UK).
I don't know how much of my comments would apply to an ethernet model.
Cheers,
David.

Hi,
I think there's a project on sourceforge which supports speedtouch on linux
and gives some details on how it all works.
On Debian you can install the 'speedtouch' package which should help configure

There is no web interface. In fact, the firmware is uploaded every
time I connect the modem to the usb port.
So I really have to use br2684ctl and a way of restarting it every
time I get disconnected.

Hello everyone.
I've recently installed an ADSL modem as my primary connection to
the internet. The modem that my provider gave me is a Speedtouch. I
have this installed on a Debian sarge machine, which uses a 2.4
kernel. This was one of the first problems I had: this kernel does

this successfully.

I think so, although all I have done is to edit:
/etc/ppp/options
/etc/ppp/chap-secrets
/etc/ppp/pap-secrets
/etc/resolv.conf
Adding the nameservers to resolv.conf

Ben,
I hope you are a patient man. I remember spending over 3 weeks trying to
figure out the alcatel speedtouch modem. That was however on a redhat
machine and without the kind help of so many kind debian users.
I was able to however find a couple of good HOWTO's. The first one I

Has anyone managed to get this working under Debian in the UK?

preferably Debian. However all the instructions I've seen are for RH. I've
tried
following the instructions, but I fall almost at the first hurdle when I try
