Thanks to all in helping me get my "smbumount" command working.
The "umount" command seems to work when the "smbumount" command fails,
but as Marc pointed out, you can 't have any file descriptors still
"using" the mount point. In my case, I had Netscape storing it's
profile/email stuff on the net
"Password:" (obviously from smbmount), which I couldn't enter
as the script had long since died.
SO, to FIX it i simply put the password on the command line of
smbmount-2.2.x. not very secure however when you are disconnected, it has
the password to reconnect you! I have since had no problems!

I have recent potato and linux 2.2.10-ac10.
For samba (2.0.4b-3) I use nls settings in /etc/samba/smb.conf:
[global]
client code page = 852
character set = ISO8859-2
Most of samba suite (smbd,nmbd and smclient) works fine
but smbmount-2.2.x doesn't translate charsets between linu
