I've had leafnode running under Debian without too much issue. The main issue
for me, was setting it up (in the way I was used to in other distros). I don't
like the way Debian sets up leafnode at first. It assumes everyone has a di

To my understanding all desired newsgroups that have to
be replicated have to be defined in
/var/spool/slrnpull/slrnpull.conf
but nothing seems to help me to define

Hi,
I installed slrn and slrnpull for offline mail reading. There is no
way that the default installation works even when debconf has asked
all the relevant questions. Sorry for the bitch, but a whole Sunday
has evaporated. An install for a dialup offline newsreader should be

Dear all,
is it possible to fetch news with slrnpull and read it with
Gnus/XEmacs?
I have the following in my .xemacs/init.el:
(setq gnus-select-method '(nnspool "/var/spool/slrnpull/"))
but when starting Gnus, it complains about:
The active file doesn't exist:
I find I have to put a link in my home directory to
/etc/news/slrnpull.conf, otherwise slrnpull doesn't find it.
Is this because there is something misconfigured in my setup or is it a
bug?

For me slrnpull was not posting before fetching. Previously I had
initially leafnode also. Though i have disabled leafnode in
/etc/inetd.conf, I had a lingering doubt about leafnode. hence i
reinstalled my linux box. It fetches the article. But while posting it
gives the error as follows.

There is a slrnpull script in my /etc/ppp/ip-up.d directory, but it
does not work. I have to do a "sudo slrnpull" every time I want to
download news while online.
It seems that the other ip-up scripts are working.

I configured slrnpull to run only on demand, but cron.daily keeps trying
to run it every morning. As I am only connected to my ISP intermittently
this is wrong.
How do I change this (apart from deleting the entry in cron.daily, which
doesn't seem to be right)?

Hi,
I have a problem with slrnpull or to be more precise with its connection
to ISP. I read file /slrn/slrnpull/QUICK_INSTALL and did all as it is
written there. So I run my /etc/ppp/ppp-on script to connect to ISP
(everything goes well as usualy) and when it's done I run slrnpull.
But all

For some reason, when I try to run slrn --spool, I get this error message:

slrn: pid 1549 is locking the newsrc file.
For this reason, I guess, nothing shows up in the spooled slrn window. What

Thanks.

I already tried that with the following configuration:
--- ~/.slrnrc ---
set spool_inn_root "~/News/slrnpull"
set spool_root "~/News/slrnpull/news"
set spool_nov_root "~/News/slrnpull/news"
set read_active 1
set use_slrnpull 1

Hi,
I installed slrn and slrnpull. For a short while I tried "plain" slrn,
but what I really need is to be able to download the news to read,
reply, compose, etc. off line.
So, I set up the slrnpull.conf like follows:
- /etc/news/slrnpull.conf -
default 0 0
grou
I can only use slrnpull as root. Is it safe?

Hi,
I get my news with slrnpull and read it with xemacs/GNUS, but don't
know how to post articles _offline_ with such a combination. When I
write an article and send it, xemacs says that all's okay, but the
article disappears without leaving a trace in the file

Could you summarize what the correct permissions are? I'd rather not
have to redownload what I've got now if I can help it.

Can anybody point me to some info on how to get trn to read from the news
spool created by slrnpull? I thought trn was capable of reading from a local

I have used slrn and slrnpull to read 4 newsgroups

comp.os.linux.answers) for a few months and then it just happened that no
new articles were collected anymore for the last two or three weeks.

I can read them off-line. The downloading process seems to be working but I

which is inaccessible at that time. Do I need to set up
