Same *exact* problem here--stuck on the "pre-depend" error. No fiddling
could get over the bump.

I've been trying to move a system at work from Red Hat to Debian for the
last day or so, without much success. The initial slink install goes okay
(I'm using the CD from the O'Reilly book), and I'm able to select and
install various things.
However, I'd like to update the installation
Following the freeze, I changed the sources.list
on one of my machines from stable to frozen and
did a dist-upgrade to see how it would get on.
The trick with the interim perl version didn't work.
Apt managed to leave me with three base package
versions installed but the program itself missing.
