Don't know why anXious did not recognise your card.
Never used it.
Perhaps, xserver-sis in place of xserver-svga could
sort out your video support problems.
apt-get install xserver-sis
AFAIK, this X server supports the SiS 86c201, SiS 86c202,
SiS 86c205, SiS 5597, SiS 5598, SiS 632
I recently installed Potato (first time using Linux). I have a SiS
5597/5598 video card, which anXious did not recognize.
The installation manual (Section 2.1.2.3) says that the Debian CDs ship with
XFree86 3.3.6

XFree86
Hi, i'm having some problems with my video card... It's a SiS 5597, i've
cofigurated it, and it is working well in 800x600 mode, but when I use
it in the 1024x768 mode, there is some noise on screen, just a few
lines, it's very boring... did Anyone else have this problem? o
