quake-3dfx almost working

Well, I finally am close to getting quake-3dfx to work with my machine. When I try to run it, the splash screen comes up for 3dfx, and then screen goes blank and nothing else happens. This locks everything up, and I have to manually reboot (not good). Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.
