Ok,
I "had" to reinstall the Radeon 9000 Pro hardware, after Synaptic did
the DRI update & yes it works! :-)
GLXgears works too.
I've found a couple off wee errors in the XFree log, but that is on the
3D side & I am mainly focussed on 2D.
