problem with Zip 250

I have an internal Zip 250. When I try to mount it (e.g., mount -t vfat /dev/hdd /zip), the drive spins and then gives an error message about an unrecognized file system type (or bad superblock). Has anyone else encountered this? The drive itself works fine. The problem seems to be with the
