Starting with the slink base system, I installed packages lprng, magicfilter, gs. Then did magicfilterconfig --force I ended up with the following in /etc/printcap lp|hpdj|HP Deskjet540:\ :lp=/dev/lp0:sd=/var/spool/lpd/hpdj:\ :sh:pw#80:pl#66:px#1440:mx#0:\ :if=/etc/magic
