Now, I have a 2nd need - to also be able to connect to my company's RAS
server from my home and then be able to Telnet into our mainframe. I do
this now
inally got my modem working, I've
run pppconfig (v1.1) plugged in all the values I could (the IP numbers are
server assigned so I don't know them and left them blank). When I use the 'pon'
command, the computer dials my ISP and hangs up. The log file says ALARM, then
EXIT.
I know Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will
my Debian machine.

A 'domain' line is useful only to a small minority of users. Most are
better off without it.

Have you looked under "Advanced Options"?
