Hi,
Re my earlier post when I said I could not connect to the internet
even though a PPP session had started, I have managed to solve the
problem. (Of my own making I might add) so I will share this for
future Users.
Whilst doing a dist-upgrade you are asked a question regarding what

Hi,
Has anyone else had a problem with ppp dial up
after upgrading to testing?
Everything was working fine, now when I use 'PON',
the system dialls and connects fine but then there is no more activity (send or
receive).
I have used pppconfig to make sure the settings
haven't changed. I was u
The problem is already solved. I'm putting the gateway as the ethernet
card.

Hi all,
I'm sending this e-mail using Windowze because my Linux box was
reinstalled (the primary HD was broken) and PPP isnt working. I used pppconfig
to configure. I estabilish the connection with pon but the connection's
velocity doesnt pass above 0 bytes, even pinging or ftping.

after issuing the updatedb command, a locate pppd command yields the following:

Please post the *exact* message, along with complete copies of the relevan
I think what's being overlooked in all of this is that the orignal
problem was that pppd was not found. pppd is the daemon.
As root, issue the command: updatedb
then enter : locate pppd
and see what comes up.

Make sure "ppp" is in your "/etc/modules" file.
Also make sure the module exists -- "/lib/modules/2.?.??/net/ppp.o"

Question:
I have slink installed, and after upgrading my kernel from 2.0.36 to
2.2.1, my ppp says it is not configured in the kernel or as a module. I
don't know a whole lot about ppp and just use pppconfig to setup my
dialup. When booting, it doesn't say "ppp line discipline" or whatever
it says

The problem is after the serial link is established. Before that, modem
dials the number, my user name and password is sent. Everything seems to be
