In the hobby/semi-pro photo camp, the current choice is Epson 2200 followed by either Epson 1280 or Canon S9000 (or I9100). The Canon is apparently quite a bit faster than the Epson 1280. No idea how Linux support is for these, and this is data gathered by lurking and not personal experience. /
